The Understanding of Key Client Types in the Protection Industry

It is critical to understand the various types of clients in the insurance field, from OEMs to retail partners, and their significant influence on the business’s success.

When it comes to the insurance business, specifically for a company like the one I work for, the word “customer” can go beyond just the end consumer. One of our fearless leaders states that everything we do should start and end with the consumer in mind. With that being said, here are several types of consumers to consider:

  • OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers): They manufacture devices, appliances, or products that need or include protection with purchase as their value proposition.
  • Retail Partners: These companies sell products with the attached protection plan, such as mobile carriers and electronic or appliance stores.
  • Corporate Clients: organizations that offer protection as part of employee or customer benefits, like extended warranties.
  • Distribution channels: These include mobile platforms, in-store sales representatives, and e-commerce platforms that help facilitate the promotion and sale of our insurance services.

“Everything we do should start and end with the consumer in mind.”

  • Internal Stakeholders include tech support, customer care services, and sales field agents who work directly with the end consumer. They can impact the customer experience and satisfaction with the brand.

All of these work together to achieve the end goal of engaging and targeting the right client or customer. By doing so, we can strengthen all cross-channel internal and external relationships and deliver a seamless experience in the omnichannel.
